“MORE PHILOSOPHY OF SILVER BIRCH”
- COMPILED BY TONY ORTZEN
“Maurice Barbanell (1902–1981) was a British journalist, author, and leading figure in Spiritualism. Barbanell founded Psychic News in 1932 and edited it for decades, tirelessly promoting Spiritualist causes. Born in London, he was the son of a barber and initially an atheist like his father. His path changed after he reluctantly agreed to investigate Spiritualism firsthand.
During a sitting with medium Mrs Blaustein, Barbanell unexpectedly entered a trance state, becoming the channel for a spirit guide later known as Silver Birch, who conveyed profound spiritual teachings with simplicity and compassion who became one of the most respected voices in modern Spiritualism. Through Barbanell’s mediumship, Silver Birch addressed life’s deepest questions, offering guidance on the nature of the soul, the afterlife, and service to humanity. For years, Barbanell’s identity as the medium remained secret, as he feared it would compromise his role as a journalist. Eventually, he revealed his connection to Silver Birch, whose messages had already gained international acclaim.”
SILVER BIRCH “SPEAKS” - AFTER PHYSICAL DEATH, EXTRACT
“We are working to a plan. We are not evangelists conducting mass meetings and capturing people in the heat of emotionalism. We labour to ensure that individuals become convinced, one at a time, that they are satisfied with the evidence they have received that they will continue after physical death, and they are also satisfied that what we have to teach neither insults their intelligence nor makes their reason revolt.
“We must win you by evidence, by reason, by intelligence, by affection and by co-operation. We will not presume to dictate or to compel, but teach you to use your divine gifts to serve others, as people with divine gifts have served you. So it must be one at a time. Each individual who becomes convinced creates a magnetic link with our world which cannot be broken, and is the means by which a constant stream of power will come to him or her.”

Reflection:
In 1982, I first encountered Silver Birch teachings whilst attending a Psychic-Spiritualism seminar at Port Macquarie, NSW. Silver Birch teachings are an extremely reliable spiritual-consciousness resource for anyone following or developing their own ‘Pathways to Awakening’. My 1982 version will always be an invaluable repository of spiritually enlightening material and will always remain on the bookshelf.
